Press & Testimonials

Planning the next leg of a trip "If you ask longtime Yukon bush pilot Ernie Onofferchuck which guide knows the territory’s remote rivers better than anyone else, without pause he’ll name Blaine Walden. For the last 25 years, Walden has been guiding Yukon canoe trips. He even honeymooned in the Yukon by dogsledding to a backcountry cabin."
Canoe & Kayak magazine, "Mammoth Find on the Blackstone River", March 2006.

In 2004, we were finalists for the Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award, which "reflect(s) the three pillars of sustainable tourism development - economic viability, environmental sustainability, and cultural appropriateness."

"Around the campfire we toasted with the last of our boxed wine and congratulated ourselves on a successful descent of the Hart. I asked Blaine how the Hart compared with other rivers of the Peel watershed. He said it was easier than the Bonnet Plume but harder than the Wind or Snake. Blaine asked Masa which river was his favorite and he replied, 'The next one.'"
Paddler Magazine, "Canoeing the Hart of the Yukon", July/August 2001.

"As we gazed out on a land unchanged by time, a member of our group broke the silence to share a thought about the real world. After a pause, Blaine replied: 'This is the real world.' Soon it was so still the only sound was the rhythm of our breathing."
River Magazine, 1999

"Our guide, Blaine Walden, seemed as indigenous to the region as the eagles which soared over us many times daily."
Financial Times of London, 1999

Canadian Tourism Commission’s Catalogue of Exemplary Practices in Adventure Travel and Ecotourism (1999)
Walden’s was recognized under the category "Don’t Promise What You Can’t Deliver - Sell Honestly!" with the following quote: "We make a point of never promising anything we can’t deliver. For example, when people ask if they’ll see northern lights, we tell them they might but it really depends on conditions. Then if they do see them , they’re pleased and if they don’t they’re not disappointed."

"The Beaver River begins its journey high in the Logan Mountains in the southeast Yukon. It travels through the oldest and richest boreal forest in the territory, carving through two canyons, picking up the warmth of hot springs, feeding large wetland complexes and then emptying into the Liard River. Setting off into the Beaver River during one of the wettest spells in the Yukon is intimidating. But all the rivers that guide Blaine Walden has paddled this summer have been in flood. Blaine beams to his group of paddlers and says "It'll be fine." It's reassuring to know about his 20 years of guiding on rivers this wild and remote."

"Blaine Walden is the kind of fellow for whom the Great North Woods were invented."
London Sunday Times, 1995
